Guest speaker Daniel Brown bases today’s teaching around what he has been learning about discipleship through his extensive worldwide travels over the past many many many many many years (decades!!) during which he has met and established relationships with other people. Discipleship simply requires our living for the sake of others. Am I doing this? Am I obedient to Jesus’ direction to us to make disciples? Using Peter as an example (John 21:15-19), Pastor Daniel offers some clues as to how each of us can each measure our devotion to God and our level of spiritual growth in Him. Our answers to a few questions can help us to determine our spiritual maturity. Is what I say I believe about who Jesus is and how He cares for me reflected in my love for others and how I care for them? Can I gauge my love for Jesus on how I treat others? Does my love for Jesus show up in how I feed His lambs? Is my love for Jesus obvious in the way I tend His sheep? Am I moving forward toward Him and the people He has placed in my care? Does my life give glory to God?
In the continuation of our Revelational Frameworks Series, our founding pastor Daniel Brown explains and defines some of the Spiritual Gifts, as noted in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. These gifts (or "spirituals") are given to us by the Holy Spirit "for the common good", which means these "sparks" are not for us to keep, but to pass on to whomever they are meant for, and everybody in the Kingdom is a candidate for those deliveries!
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
The workings of a spirit of lust are very often misunderstood, and this spirit can thrive in the obscurity of that lack of understanding. However, God’s Word reveals the fullness of the true nature of this spiritual force. It’s much broader than you think and you’ll be surprised to find out what is really going on!
Pastor Daniel Brown taught about the contrary spiritual forces that oppose us and hinder our
walk with God. Why do I feel like such a failed believer? Why can’t I make headway? What
keeps blowing me off into wrong places? Our flesh, our old self versus our new self in Christ
means that we are perpetually faced with putting off the old and putting on the new. (Galatians
Pastor Daniel focused on four categories of death-dealing, loss-bringing, hope-stealing evil: the
WORLD, (1 John 2:16-17), our FLESH, (Galatians 5:16-17), the SIN-FORCE, (Romans 7:20, 22-23),
and the EVIL-SPIRITED, Acts 19:16, Mark 1:26-27, Matthew 7:18-20).
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers,
against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the
heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
The Lord intends for us to live an abundant life in freedom and to experience all the purposes He planned for our lives. So, why do we all have parts of our lives where those hopes feel out of our reach? We will examine how the Lord reaches out to us in our need, with His deliverance--doing what only He can do for us!
Do you want to make more of a difference in other people’s lives? Speaking what is spiritual has the power to fundamentally alter things in your soul. But how do we know what is truly spiritual? Teaching from 1 Corinthians 14, our founding pastor, Daniel Brown, offers three simple tests: True prophecy is love-filled, encouraging and up-building; it gets under people and lifts them up. God’s word is not always sensational; it may seem like no big deal until you use it—and then it can have a big impact. And finally, any prophetic word will be revelational, and will be confirmed by Scripture.
