Isaiah 7

Isaiah 7

War against Jerusalem
 1Now it came about in the days of (A)Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that (B)Rezin the king of Aram and (C)Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but (D)could not conquer it.

 2When it was reported to the (E)house of David, saying, "The Arameans (F)have camped in (G)Ephraim," his heart and the hearts of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake with the wind.

 3Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the (H)conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller's field,

 4and say to him, 'Take care and be (I)calm, have no (J)fear and (K)do not be fainthearted because of these two stubs of smoldering (L)firebrands, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the (M)son of Remaliah.

 5'Because (N)Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,

 6"Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,"

 7thus says the Lord GOD: "(O)It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.

 8"For the head of Aram is (P)Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another 65 years Ephraim will be shattered, so that it is no longer a people),

 9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. (Q)If you will not believe, you surely shall not last."'"

The Child Immanuel
 10Then the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

 11"Ask a (R)sign for yourself from the LORD your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven."

 12But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!"

 13Then he said, "Listen now, O (S)house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will (T)try the patience of (U)my God as well?

 14"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, (V)a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name [a](W)Immanuel.

 15"He will eat (X)curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.

 16"(Y)For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, (Z)the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.

Trials to Come for Judah
 17"The LORD will bring on you, on your people, and on your father's house such days as have never come since the day that (AA)Ephraim separated from Judah, the (AB)king of Assyria."

 18In that day the LORD will (AC)whistle for the fly that is in the (AD)remotest part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

 19They will all come and settle on the steep ravines, on the (AE)ledges of the cliffs, (AF)on all the thorn bushes and on all the watering places.

 20In that day the Lord will (AG)shave with a (AH)razor, (AI)hired from regions beyond (AJ)the Euphrates (that is, with the king of Assyria), the head and the hair of the legs; and it will also remove the beard.

 21Now in that day a man may keep alive a (AK)heifer and a pair of sheep;

 22and because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat curds, for everyone that is left within the land will eat (AL)curds and honey.

 23And it will come about in that day, (AM)that every place where there used to be a thousand vines, valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become (AN)briars and thorns.

 24People will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will be briars and thorns.

 25As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for (AO)pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.

2 Chronicles 27

2 Chronicles 27

Jotham Succeeds Uzziah in Judah
 1(A)Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.

 2He did right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah had done; (B)however he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people continued acting corruptly.

 3He built the upper gate of the house of the LORD, and he built extensively the wall of (C)Ophel.

 4Moreover, he built (D)cities in the hill country of Judah, and he built fortresses and towers on the wooded hills.

 5He fought also with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed over them so that the Ammonites gave him during that year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand [a]kors of wheat and ten thousand of barley. The Ammonites also paid him this amount in the second and in the third year.

 6(E)So Jotham became mighty because he ordered his ways before the LORD his God.

 7(F)Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, even all his wars and his acts, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.

 8He was (G)twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

 9And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Ahaz his son became king in his place.

Philemon 1

Philemon 1

Salutation
 1(A)Paul, (B)a prisoner of (C)Christ Jesus, and (D)Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved brother and (E)fellow worker,

 2and to Apphia (F)our sister, and to (G)Archippus our (H)fellow soldier, and to (I)the church in your house:

 3(J)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philemon's Love and Faith
 4(K)I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,

 5because I (L)hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints;

 6and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective [a]through the (M)knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ's sake.

 7For I have come to have much (N)joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been (O)refreshed through you, brother.

 8Therefore, (P)though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you to do what is (Q)proper,

 9yet for love's sake I rather (R)appeal to you--since I am such a person as Paul, the (S)aged, and now also (T)a prisoner of (U)Christ Jesus--

Plea for Onesimus, a Free Man
 10I (V)appeal to you for my (W)child [b](X)Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my imprisonment,

 11who formerly was useless to you, but now is useful both to you and to me.

 12I have sent him back to you in person, that is, sending my very heart,

 13whom I wished to keep with me, so that on your behalf he might minister to me in my (Y)imprisonment for the gospel;

 14but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would (Z)not be, in effect, by compulsion but of your own free will.

 15For perhaps (AA)he was for this reason separated from you for a while, that you would have him back forever,

 16(AB)no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, (AC)a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both (AD)in the flesh and in the Lord.

 17If then you regard me a (AE)partner, accept him as you would me.

 18But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account;

 19(AF)I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it ((AG)not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self as well).

 20Yes, brother, let me benefit from you in the Lord; (AH)refresh my heart in Christ.

 21(AI)Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, since I know that you will do even more than what I say.

 22At the same time also prepare me a (AJ)lodging, for (AK)I hope that through (AL)your prayers (AM)I will be given to you.

 23(AN)Epaphras, my (AO)fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

 24as do (AP)Mark, (AQ)Aristarchus, (AR)Demas, (AS)Luke, my (AT)fellow workers.

 25(AU)The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be (AV)with your spirit.[c]
